Living the Lolita lifestyle in everyday life:

MUSIC!!

Hello everyone. It's been a while since my last post. Well, in this post I thought I would write about one of my loves to survive in everyday life; in my Lolita life that is. I'm talking about music of course.

Over the years, Lolita fashion has gone further than "just wearing the clothes and tea parties". The Lolita aesthetic has also made it's way into music. So, I well be discussing various music artists\ idols that have incorporated Lolita fashion into their music, as well as a few other mentions of other pioneers of kawaii culture in general.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

The first one I would like to talk about is of course, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (KPP). KPP jumped into the fashion scene working as a model for KERA magazine and Zipper. She released her first single PON PON in August 2011, drawing inspiration from overseas artists such as Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry. Her music is cute with her high pitched squeaky voice, bright and "out there" costumes and catchy lyrics. Some of KPP's MV sets and costumes are also designed by the 6% Doki Doki owner, Sebastian Matsuda.

Merry Merli

Merry Merli are a Lolita fashion idol group. In their recent releases, they have featured well known lolita fashion model, Misako Aoki. Their music has a somber and melancholy sound to it, yet, it is cute at the same time. It's kind of hard to describe, but give them a listen and see what you think!

Kanon Wakeshima

Kanon Wakeshima got an early start in music at the age of three, learning to play the Cello. In high school she formed her own music ensemble and later classical ensembles, specializing in Baroque music. She then went on to write and compose music and lyrics, and performed these at her high school's cultural festival. She was then scouted by Mana sama, and landed a recording contract with DefStar records. She has also done some ending themes to the anime "Vampire Night", and also voiced a maid character in the series as well.
Her music is a mixture of cute and creepy, with a bit of fun sounding thrown in with the additional sound of cello with vocals. Check it out if you haven't already!!

Visual Kei- Malice Mizer

Lastly, how could I forget Mana- sama's glam rock band, Malice Mizer. Even though I'm not really into this type of music, I thought I would give it a mention.  Formed by Mana and Közi, the band's name stands for "malice and misery," extracted from "nothing but a being of malice and misery" — their reply to the question "what is human?". Their earlier music and themes were characterized by their strong French and classical influences, later moving away from deliberate French romanticism and incorporating Gothic-Victorian aspects after several tragedies befell the band. Despite the stated archetypes, Malice Mizer is best recognized as a thoroughly original entity.

Mana is also responsible for starting up the Lolita fashion brand "Moi mem moite", and also Kanon Wakeshima's start in the music industry, as I discussed earlier.
